While researching whether or not to purchase an ice cream attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer, I have read review after review plainly stating that this KitchenAid ice cream maker design is flawed because of the paddle AND the bowl. The customer service people have had to comment on nearly every single review. Why is this attachment still on the market? AND, to make matters even worse, it is being given away as a "free gift with purchase" at retail stores. Shame.

Have been using for a couple of years, enjoyed it, but recently have noticed blue liquid coming out of the base of maker. Not under warranty anymore, so unsafe to use. It is ashame because my family really enjoyed the ice cream when I made it.

We noticed a blue goo in our freezer, but were not sure what it was. By the time we realized that it was coming from the ice cream maker, it had leaked enough such that the ice cream maker no longer worked and it was out of warranty.

Have enjoyed my Kitchenaid for years now and thought the ice cream maker would be a nice addition, especially when the grandkids came over. Unfortunately, a key component broke after using it only twice. The drive assembly broke. I have two model kitchen aids and the drive assemble did not fit either models according tot he directions. By the third use, the assembly slipped off the dasher bending the shaft and damaging the short wire intending to keep in in place. Am surprised by the poor design and over emphasis on plastic in the design (my original attachments were metal and have lasted me 35+ years).

I absolutely love my KitchenAid stand mixer and attachments. My mixer itself is 20 years old and still works perfectly. This ice cream maker is not even close to the quality I expected. I purchased it in January when a major department store in our area went out of business. I made ice cream once but noticed that the bowl didn't stay cold enough. I refroze and tried again and that's when I realized that the bow has a hairline crack around the circumference and I had almost no liquid inside to freeze! No wonder it didn't work! The department store has since closed otherwise I would have returned this ice cream maker. I didn't have trouble with the dasher like some other reviewers but I can see how the plastic might not hold up over time. Disappointing coming from the same company that made my mixer that has held up so well over the years. I was expecting a much higher quality ice cream maker.
